bliss-sad's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Impromptu sleep over at my parent's house last night. Typically, this is indicative of awfulness afoot, but in our case, we just wanted to sleep in a home with electricity. After our extraordinarily beautiful and much needed day trip (that I will get into when I have access to pictures!), we spent Sunday with my brother (who is apprx 8 weeks shy of finishing school to become an electrician) rewiring a few outlets and light fixtures that have been dead since our house was hit by lighting a few months ago. What was supposed to be an hour long project turned into an all-day affair. Each time we pulled out a socket, we were met with 50-something year old hardware and ungrounded wires. The end result was a lot of holes in the wall, a dozen or so feet of new wiring and several new fixtures. When the job itself was finally done, we went to throw the master breaker switch in the basement and the fucking thing just broke. So, all the work itself was done, but there is no way for my home to harness, channel or route the electricity into my home. In fact, to fix it, we will have to cut power the transformer which means we have to get a city maintenance man involved.
